Some time the world is too much with us. Watching the political scene in America makes me lose sleep. The question that rings in my ear is “What now my friends, what now?” after you win back the House and Senate, after you impose restrictions on the people’s ability to cast ballots, after you pollute the public opinion as to the trustworthiness of the electoral process, after you’ve arranged the political landscape to your liking, after you’ve re-configured the social landscape to be a reflection of yourselves, after all that what then?
You’ve shown remarkably little aptitude or desire to govern. The last guy’s big accomplishment was a huge tax cut to the top 5%, and an attempt to enrich himself by any means. G.W. Bush gave the wealthy a tax cut and started a war on foreign soil. Not a lot of public policy with those two. In between then and now the only major announced political agenda for the GOP was to block the Democrats from accomplishing anything at all. There was no new platform for the 2016 election, just recycling of the stale old stance, and for 2022 there is no platform. Given the GOP members we now have in Congress what kind of policy changes might the country expect, will Bobert, Greene, Gatez, or Mitch spring forward with new public policies for the American people? I’m not sure there’s a true policy wonk or leader of any note on that side of the House or Senate.
So GOP when you’ve re-created the country in your image to make it comfortable to you, what then, with several decades of rejection of progressive thought, with decades of obstructionism and refusal to negotiate or discuss points of view, what then?
