Where did racism come from? History.
Folks have declared that their group, clan, tribe is better than any other one, since anything considered human existed. As power systems developed racism has been used to suppressed one group over another.
Follow this down through the ages and the aspects of the “Other” has changed, but it becomes easier with people that look different than the folks in power. By the time racism came to this continent it was intrenched in all power structures. Folks of varying skin tone got to be the people on the bottom (whee), and mix in religions and economic differences, and the telling of the First Lie became easier.
In the USA those lucky folks that were on top knew they could stay on top as long as they had a rich supply of folks that weren’t on top. The lowest of course were slaves, natives (savages), and anyone that wasn’t white. There’s another group that isn’t spoken of much those were poor folk. This is an massively important group since they could have some political clout, so the “upper” class had it’s work cut out for it. It was vital that the poor folks had someone to look down on. That was remarkably easy given the use of the legal system that kept (mostly) black folk in subjugation.
“You may not have much but at least you got more than that guy, and by the way he wants what you have.” One of the oldest and most poisonous lies of our history. After the Emancipation Proclamation and in all the days that have followed, that lie was reinforced and expanded on.
This is the point of this blog.
We’ve been lied to for our entire lives. there really aren’t “lesser” folks, please note that I’m not making a Moral or legal opinion I mean everyone. There is no one person that has less worth than any other.
Where your ancestors came from doesn’t matter, who you look like doesn’t matter, what you pray to doesn’t matter, We are ALL Americans of equal worth as humans.
Now if you have great amounts of power of wealth, you want to keep and amass more of everything, and that’s where the First Lie comes to the fore, trying to convince all of us that one group is beneath another.
It was a Lie at the first and it’s still a lie today, over 200 years of telling the lie that says one person is and should be “lesser”.
The truth is that no one is better than any other.
If you are of lesser wealth you have millions of allies of other citizens we all deserve the same chances as any other. Citizens, immigrants and newcomers all of us are allies, and need to stand together, so if someone tries to tell you that any other human is a threat is telling you the First Lie.

Oh, and the answer to the title question is who’s on your side, I am, and my and pretty much every body else’s
more on poverty to come.
